November Letter from the Chair
Wednesday, November 15, 2017
Dear Giving Institute Members,
It was such a pleasure to be with so many of you last week in Chicago at our November Meeting and educational sessions. Living where I do, I always appreciate coming north for a few days in November to feel the chill in the air. It reminds me of my childhood and the beginning of the holiday season.
At the start of the board meeting – my first as chair – I shared how much I value this organization and the way we each play a role in making The Giving Institute what it is today. In addition to the knowledge sharing and collaboration we engage in, I also truly value the new friendships that are made with each Giving Institute gathering.
I know I said it when we were together, but I do want to thank – again – former chairs Tom Mesaros, David King and Jeffrey Byrne for preparing me for this role. Watching each of you care for the organization and help chart its way forward has been helpful and inspiring.
At last week’s meeting, we welcomed Qgiv to The Giving Institute family and enjoyed having Todd Baylis, Qgiv President, with us for his first official meeting as a member. If you have recommendations for more new members, please reach out to Derek Alley or Ryan Woroniecki, our membership chairs.
I expect most of us will be heads down through the end of the year, managing year-end campaigns, #GivingTuesday, and the season that brings the majority of donations in for our clients. During this time and into the new year, you will hear more about the March Meeting, coming up March 1-2 at the Four Seasons Las Colinas in Dallas, and the special live webcast on the to-be-released Giving USA Special Report on Donor-Advised Funds, taking place during our time together. You will also hear more about our 2018 Summer Symposium, July 12-14 in Charleston, South Carolina. Brenda Asare and Jennifer Richard are deep in planning already with their committee, putting together an event you will not want to miss. We will be seeking ideas for Golden Ticket attendees, so think about whom you’d like to have join us for some Southern hospitality.
As always, please feel free to reach out if you have any questions. I am a big believer in transparency, so know that I am at your disposal if you need more information about Giving Institute happenings or simply want to talk.
2017-2019 Board Chair
